In 1992 Nike decided to retro Air Max 1 for the first time, but Nike changed the design up a bit. The midsole and outsole were taken from the Air Max 3 (now called the Nike Air Max 90). All the retro models of the AM 1 released from 1992 were leather, but in 1995 Nike released nylon retro’s, then another change in 1996. Nike had made the famous swoosh logo on the side smaller.
The Nike Air Max 1 was the first in its line, and was released in 1987. It featured Air cushioning that was visible at the heel, which made the shoe very popular. The upper was made of nylon mesh and synthetic suede. It wasn’t until 1988 that the leather version was released.
The Air Max 1 was first reissued in 1992, but the design was altered a bit. The remake used the midsole and outsole from the Air Max 90’s. All of the reissues from 1992 were leather versions. That is, until 1995, when Nike released nylon retro versions. The logo along the side panel was made smaller.
